FACILITATORS

Rooted Waters emerged from a shared vision to offer guidance to individuals on their healing path who are willing to brave the mysterious and wonderful world of plant medicines and ceremony. It is our great honour to bear witness to your unique story while we learn together what it is to walk this life story with grace.

May we do so in reverence with the land we live on and the people, plants, and animals we are in community with.

SEED OF INSPIRATION

Ancient traditions such as the Bwete have been built for centuries and involve a wealth of intricate practices intended to support and keep the whole of the village in a state of harmony. The expressions of these practices are rooted in land, ancestry, philosophy, spirituality, music and embodiment. It is through each aspect and the needs of the people that rituals are born and passed on through generations.

Such is the inspiration of Rooted Waters. Trained in the Bwete tradition and with the support of over 20 years of experience working with ceremonial plant medicines, we source within ourselves the ancestral and modern expressions of our hearts to craft ceremonies that honour the full spectrum of our human nature all the while acknowledging the indigenous traditions that we work with.

In this age where information and the cultural melting pot is at a peak high, it has become imperative to walk with humility. It is important for us at Rooted Waters to acknowledge the origins of our offerings, whether it be the Bobongo peoples, Shipibo peoples, local Indigenous peoples such as the Quw’utsun or other cultural teaching we have gathered in our travels . We do our best and always welcome input on how to best support the honouring of indigenous peoples in such a way that builds good relation and provides tangible support for the continued healing and grown of the ancient Traditions.

Ultimately, Rooted Waters strives to offer ceremonies grounded in ancient village practices with a modern voice. It is an ever flowing, evolving process centered around listening to the deeper needs of individuals and society as a whole.

We are located on the traditional territory of the Tsawout First Nations, now called Salt Spring Island at the Wakyanii Sanctuary and home. We are willing to travel upon request.

Dimitri Urukah

My name Is Dimitri. I come from a multicultural background. Part Cretan, part Lebanese and part French, my name mean's "he who loves the earth". Today i am blessed with the opportunity to live on Salt Spring Island and the traditional territories of the Coast Salish People specifically the Tsawout, Wsàeć, Quw'utsun, Stz'uminus territories.

I am a traveler of winding roads and believe in the subtle ways of Beauty, Kindness & Compassion. Having had the privilege of having experienced profound struggle and be guided by both Elders & young ones who encouraged a blossoming through tempering, I have carried a keen listening ear through life, learning from plants, animals and people.  I work to support Iboga’s pristine teachings of Sovereignty and alignment with Spirit through humility and a continuing emergent dedication to humanity remembering it's innate Divinity.

I believe that each and everyone of us holds a powerful Flame Eternal, which when allowed to emerge creates the Poesis of life. Without the reclaiming of our Selves within the relational web of all creation, life cannot fulfill itself.

It is through a service to the Sacrament of Iboga and an openness of heart that I hope to provide the rich soils for all to remember who and what they truly are.

I am also a passionate tender of land, a beekeeper, a permaculturist, bodyworker, passionate of ancestral skills and have worked extensively within the addiction recovery world.

Most important of all, I am a Father who prays each and everyday that future generations will have a world in which Beauty thrives and where the ways of old continue to. bloom.

Coco Kami

As a studied Herbalist, Storyteller, and Expressive Arts Therapist, I find great joy in helping others connect with what inspires them and their own unique medicine through ceremony and the process of creative inquiry and integration.

Having had a sense that something was missing in my search for meaning and growth, I turned to plant medicines for guidance. Recognizing their innate wisdom and incredible ability to meet me where I was, I dedicated myself to learning from them at a young age. I have had the honour and priviledge of learning from the Peruvian Shipibo tradition of “vegetalismo” for the past 18 years and through this work I have learned that every plant is a great teacher. Some have louder voices than others but through sensitizing and deep listening from the heart, I have found that the natural world is endlessly generous in her teachings.

I feel it is my purpose in life to help build a bridge of remembrance between self, nature and the essence of wholeness.
